UPSC Civil Services Recruitment was a key focus during the Union Public Service Commission’s centenary celebrations in New Delhi on October 1, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said recruitment examinations should assess not only what candidates know but also why they want to join the civil services. He emphasised the need to attract young people motivated by public service and highlighted complex problem-solving and farsightedness as important qualities. The UPSC has also been discussing examination reforms aimed at assessing reasoning, spontaneous thinking and judgement in ambiguous situations. UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar outlined “Trust, Transparency and Technology” as guiding principles for the Commission’s next phase. The centenary celebrations mark 100 years since the first Public Service Commission was established in India on October 1, 1926.
