AI Policy for Schools is gaining attention as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into education. A new report from Cambridge University Press & Assessment recommends involving teachers and learners in the design, procurement, implementation and evaluation of generative AI tools. The report also calls for sustained professional learning so teachers can assess AI tools, make informed teaching decisions and guide students in responsible use. It recommends embedding critical AI literacy in the curriculum, enabling students to question AI-generated information, identify inaccuracies and understand when AI should not be used. Other recommendations include protecting teacher professional judgement, strengthening data privacy safeguards and ensuring equitable access to quality AI tools. The report says policies should focus on human-centred outcomes such as critical thinking, communication, autonomy and social responsibility while keeping classroom realities at the centre of AI adoption.
