NEET UG 2027 Online Exam plans are being worked out as the Education Ministry develops a national Computer-Based Testing (CBT) infrastructure strategy for large entrance examinations. The proposed framework aims to expand test-centre availability, standardise examination facilities and support the transition of paper-based exams to computer-based testing. NEET-UG currently uses the pen-and-paper format, while examinations such as JEE Main, CUET-UG, CUET-PG, UGC-NET and CSIR-UGC-NET are already conducted through CBT. However, the final decision on the NEET-UG transition is still subject to recommendations from the high-powered task force led by Nandan Nilekani, along with consultation involving the Health Ministry and National Medical Commission. Officials are also examining infrastructure requirements and equity concerns for candidates in rural, women and low-connectivity areas. Nearly 25 lakh candidates appear for NEET-UG each year, making nationwide testing infrastructure a major consideration.
