IIT Kharagpur Director: Exams and Grades Don’t Define Students

IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty addressing students about exams and grades

IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty has addressed students ahead of their examinations, urging them not to view grades or individual exam results as measures of their overall ability. In a video message posted by IIT Kharagpur on September 20, Chakraborty said exams are important but represent only one part of a student’s life. He advised students to trust their preparation, take one question at a time, sleep adequately and support their friends. He also encouraged students to approach examinations with confidence and honesty. His message comes amid renewed discussion about academic pressure and student welfare following the death of an IIT Bombay student after an examination-related incident. IIT Bombay has stated that no disciplinary action had been initiated against the student and that he had been counselled. Chakraborty also reminded students that a poor exam result should not be treated as a judgment on their abilities or future.
