NEET UG 2026 Reforms: Nilekani Panel Prepares First Report

NEET UG 2026 reforms and Supreme Court review of NTA examination systems

NEET UG 2026 reforms are being reviewed by a Nandan Nilekani-led panel, which is expected to submit its first interim report by the end of September 2026. The high-powered panel has held consultations with stakeholders, including members of an earlier committee headed by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan. The Supreme Court has also stressed the need for a permanent and well-equipped structure for the National Testing Agency (NTA), including more permanent staff. NTA is strengthening examination security through measures such as computer-based testing infrastructure, CCTV surveillance, face authentication and frisking. The agency is also exploring AI and analytics to identify unusual examination patterns and possible irregularities. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh has indicated that NEET-UG could move to computer-based testing soon. The ongoing reforms aim to strengthen examination security, technology, staffing and administration as the government considers changes to the national medical entrance examination.
