Financial Literacy Programme in Karnataka Schools will be introduced across 956 schools for students from Classes 8 to 12 during the 2026–27 academic year. The initiative will include 307 functioning Karnataka Public Schools and other schools developed with Asian Development Bank assistance. Students will learn practical aspects of personal finance, including banking, savings, budgeting, digital payments, investments, stock markets and financial fraud prevention. The programme is being implemented under the Central Government’s Innovation Project Recurring scheme for 2026–27. A total grant of ₹47.80 lakh has been allocated, with ₹5,000 provided for each participating school. Schools will conduct student-centred activities to make financial concepts easier to understand. Planned activities include budgeting exercises, simple-interest calculations, quizzes, poster-making and demonstrations related to UPI and ATMs. Students may also get opportunities to visit local banks and, where feasible, learn about stock-market operations through educational visits.
