CBSE Three-Language Policy for Class 6 may be deferred until January 2027 following the Supreme Court’s latest directions. On September 17, the Supreme Court asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to reconsider implementing the mandatory three-language framework for Class 6 during the current academic session. The CBSE agreed to examine the matter and submit a fresh note to the court. The court also indicated that students who wish to study three languages during the current session could be allowed to do so. Under the policy, students are required to study three languages, including at least two Indian languages. The framework aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The court’s suggestion does not settle the legal challenges to the policy. The next hearing is scheduled for September 23, 2026.
