Bodhan AI: Building Public AI Infrastructure for Indian Education

Bodhan AI public AI infrastructure supporting Indian education

Bodhan AI for Indian education is being developed as a public AI infrastructure layer to support multilingual learning and teaching. Incubated at IIT Madras, Bodhan AI is the Centre of Excellence in AI for Education and is working on the Bharat EduAI Stack, a sovereign digital public infrastructure for education. Its recent initiatives include AI models for speech recognition, translation, text-to-speech and optical character recognition across Indian languages. Bodhan AI has also introduced a Student Tutor Bot for Classes 6–12 and a Teacher Assistant Bot to support learning and classroom preparation. The infrastructure is intended to allow governments, educational institutions, researchers and technology companies to build applications on shared AI capabilities rather than developing similar systems separately. This approach could support personalised learning, multilingual education, teacher assistance and wider access to AI-enabled educational resources.
