Mother Tongue Education India was stressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Navi Mumbai during the 6th All India Rajbhasha Sammelan. Shah said a child can understand India through their mother tongue and stressed the importance of promoting Indian languages in education. He said the National Education Policy places emphasis on learning in the mother tongue and also encouraged students to learn another Indian language. According to Shah, learning multiple Indian languages can help students connect with the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural traditions. Shah also said the government wants Indian languages to be used more widely in governance and science. He noted that JEE, NEET, and undergraduate entrance examinations are conducted in 13 languages. He further highlighted efforts to strengthen Indian languages through technology and translation tools. The government’s AI-based Kanthasth 2.0 platform, he said, contains more than five crore sentences and has also been made available to foreign users.
