IIT Kanpur Medical Degrees will initially focus on super-speciality programmes such as DM and MCh, while the institute’s MBBS programme is planned for a later stage. The Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology is developing an interdisciplinary model that brings medicine, engineering, science and technology together. The medical school plans to offer DM and MCh programmes alongside MS and PhD programmes in areas connecting medicine with engineering and science. Research will focus on technologies including artificial intelligence, robotics, telemedicine and advanced diagnostics. IIT Kanpur is also developing the 500-plus-bed Yadupati Singhania Super-Speciality Hospital and a separate cancer care and research centre. The facilities are intended to support advanced treatment, clinical research and medical innovation. Professor Anil K. Lalwani is the inaugural dean of the medical school. IIT Kanpur says the initiative aims to develop affordable healthcare technologies and strengthen MedTech innovation. The MBBS programme is expected to follow after the required clinical infrastructure and faculty ecosystem are established.
