Sidharth Babu, a 2017-batch IFS officer, became popular online after appearing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Babu studied mechanical engineering and later worked in the private sector, including the e-commerce sector. His interest in international relations eventually motivated him to pursue the Civil Services Examination. After failing to clear the UPSC examination in his first attempt, Babu returned with a better understanding of the exam and secured All India Rank 15. He chose the Indian Foreign Service because of his interest in international affairs and diplomacy. He joined the 2017 IFS batch. Babu later served in Beijing from 2018 to 2022, where he developed Chinese-language skills, and also worked in California.
