Nirantara App Attendance Issues Trouble Karnataka PU Lecturers

Nirantara app used for student attendance in Karnataka PU colleges

Nirantara app is facing difficulties as PU college lecturers struggle to use it for recording student attendance, especially in remote areas of Karnataka. Introduced this academic year by the Department of Pre-University Education, the app requires teachers to photograph students individually or in groups and mark attendance online. However, poor internet connectivity, low-end smartphones and repeated photo attempts are creating challenges. Lecturers in colleges reportedly spend significant time completing the process, while facial recognition may fail to detect students correctly. The app also requires around 300–400 MB of mobile data, depending on the number of students. Officials said the system is intended to ensure regular attendance and reduce manual work. The department has instructed teachers to use the app without disrupting classes and has updated the application to address earlier concerns. The issue remains significant for colleges in connectivity-limited regions.
