IIT Madras BS programmes are offering students an alternative pathway to access IIT education without appearing for JEE Advanced. IIT Madras Director Professor V Kamakoti said IIT education should not be restricted only to students who clear the highly competitive entrance examination. The institute’s BS programmes allow learners to enter through a separate admission process while maintaining academic requirements. The BS in Data Science and Applications was launched in 2020 and has since expanded significantly. IIT Madras has also introduced programmes covering areas such as Electronic Systems, Aeronautics and Space Technology, and Management and Data Science. The programmes are largely delivered online, with examinations conducted in person. According to IIT Madras, more than 38,000 candidates were enrolled in its BS programmes in 2025. Kamakoti said these programmes are aimed at widening access to quality IIT education for students from diverse backgrounds and locations.
