BRICS AI in Education: New Global University Ranking Plan

BRICS leaders support AI in education and a new global university ranking system

BRICS AI in education has emerged as a major focus of the 2026 BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. BRICS nations supported sharing best practices on the safe, ethical and human-centred use of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in education. The New Delhi Declaration also called for stronger cooperation in digital literacy, skill development, academic mobility and institutional partnerships. Countries agreed to encourage exchange and scholarship programmes, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), while improving links between technical education and industry. Another significant proposal is the further exploration of a BRICS University Global Ranking and Evaluation System. The initiative could provide a broader framework for evaluating universities across different regions and educational priorities. The BRICS Network University will also continue supporting academic collaboration, including discussions on traditional and indigenous knowledge. These measures aim to make education more inclusive, technology-ready and connected to future skills and global opportunities.
