NIMHANS mental health awareness programme across Karnataka government colleges

NIMHANS Partners With Karnataka Colleges for Mental Health Awareness, with programmes aimed at helping educators recognise student mental health concerns and strengthen support systems across government colleges. Mental Health Programmes in Government Colleges are being strengthened through awareness and orientation sessions for principals and educators across Karnataka. More than 420 Government First Grade Colleges and over 800 principals have received orientation on recognising and responding to students’ mental health concerns. The initiative focuses on strengthening institutional support systems, suicide prevention, mental health promotion and access to available resources. Conducted in collaboration with NIMHANS, the one-day orientation programmes are being organised across various districts. Participants are also being introduced to tele-support services, digital mental health resources and ways to create a supportive environment for students. The programme highlights the important role colleges can play in identifying emotional and psychological difficulties among young people and connecting them with appropriate support. The initiative is expected to improve awareness among educators and strengthen mental health support systems across government colleges in Karnataka.
