Karnataka AI education is being positioned as an early part of school learning, with the state planning AI and coding exposure from Class 6. The proposed AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukula programmes are intended to introduce students to emerging technologies before they reach higher education. The initiative is part of a wider strategy linking school education with skills, higher education and employment. Karnataka is also planning a government-led AI university in Bengaluru focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, along with an AI Hub intended to encourage research and collaboration between academia and industry. Introducing AI at school level could help students become familiar with technology earlier, although successful implementation will depend on curriculum quality, teacher preparation, infrastructure and equitable access. If implemented effectively, the approach could strengthen Karnataka’s pipeline from school-level digital learning to advanced AI education and technology careers.
