ISRO Privatisation is not planned, Chairman V Narayanan has assured employees amid concerns over the growing role of private companies in India’s space sector. Narayanan addressed employees through a video conference and said ISRO would continue its major projects and missions in the coming years. The assurance followed a September 4 representation from employee associations seeking clarity on the organisation’s future role. Employees had raised concerns about the transfer of mature technologies and increasing private participation in activities traditionally handled by ISRO. Narayanan said the agency would not be privatised and highlighted upcoming missions and projects. ISRO has maintained that space-sector reforms are aimed at expanding India’s overall space ecosystem, with private companies taking on mature and scalable activities while ISRO focuses on advanced research, strategic missions and frontier technologies. The development comes as India seeks to increase private participation while retaining ISRO’s central role in the national space programme.
