IIT Hyderabad MTech Defence Technology is a four-semester postgraduate programme designed for students interested in advanced defence engineering and technology. Candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech degree in any discipline and First Class, equivalent to 60% marks or 6 CGPA, are eligible to apply. Final-year engineering students can also apply, subject to completing their degree before admission. For this programme, a GATE score is not mandatory. Selection is based on a written test and/or interview. The programme is offered under the self-sponsored category, and students admitted through this route are not eligible for a stipend. The curriculum includes foundational courses, advanced electives, internship/project work and a thesis, covering emerging areas relevant to defence technology. The programme carries 50 credits and provides opportunities for students interested in defence research, aerospace, robotics and advanced engineering. The first/current 2026–27 batch of IIT Hyderabad’s M.Tech in Defence Technologies has commenced as part of the July–November 2026 academic session.
