Foreign universities in Karnataka are expanding their presence, giving students access to international education without having to leave India. Karnataka has emerged as a major destination for global universities, with institutions such as the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University and La Trobe University establishing Bengaluru campuses. The University of New South Wales has also opened its Bengaluru campus, strengthening the State’s international education ecosystem. The trend is also moving towards KWIN City, where Karnataka is exploring facilities designed specifically for foreign universities. Six universities, including Imperial College London, UNSW, Liverpool, Lancaster, La Trobe and Flinders, have signed agreements with the State. For students, these campuses could offer international curricula, global faculty and overseas-standard learning while reducing the need to travel abroad. However, experts also point to the importance of maintaining academic quality, affordability, and meaningful international exposure in Indian campuses.
