Study Abroad 2026 trends show that Indian students are increasingly choosing destinations based on jobs, career growth and return on investment rather than university rankings. A new Transnational Education Report 2026 by upGrad found that Germany accounted for 51% of enrolments among its study-abroad learners between January 2025 and June 2026. The report analysed 53,800 aspirants and found that 49% considered better job opportunities their main reason for studying abroad. Rising costs and tighter immigration policies are also encouraging students to explore European destinations such as Germany, France, Spain and Finland. Around 70% of aspirants planned to study abroad with a budget below ₹30 lakh, while nearly 60% came from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Demand for STEM education also increased 18% year-on-year. The findings suggest that Indian students are increasingly treating overseas education as a pathway to employment and career growth.
