Student mental health and well-being initiatives at IIT Madras and Delhi University

Student Mental Health has received renewed attention as IIT Madras and Delhi University launch initiatives focused on well-being, awareness and support for students and parents. IIT Madras organised a special online session for parents to help them understand students’ needs, communicate effectively and provide emotional support. The session, called PREM, focused on the role parents can play in supporting students during their higher education journey. It was organised around World Suicide Prevention Day. Meanwhile, Delhi University is hosting a national conference titled “Science Meets Social Science: Mental Well-being and Happiness”. The event brings together academics, researchers and students to discuss mental health, emotional resilience and happiness. Topics include mindfulness, music therapy, food and happiness, social relationships and well-being. The initiatives highlight the growing need for institutions and families to work together to create healthier academic environments and help students manage stress and emotional challenges.
