Indian Students Studying Abroad: 49% Seek Better Jobs

Indian students studying abroad for better job opportunities and career prospects

Indian students studying abroad are becoming more focused on career outcomes, with around 49% saying better job opportunities are their main reason for pursuing overseas education, according to upGrad’s Transnational Education Report 2026. The findings are based on 53,800 counselled aspirants between January 2025 and June 2026. Students are increasingly comparing countries based on employment prospects, affordability and return on investment rather than only university reputation. Nearly 70% plan to complete their overseas education within a total budget of ₹30 lakh. Germany, Finland, Spain and France are gaining attention for affordable education and employment-linked opportunities. Germany, in particular, has emerged as a strong choice as students look beyond traditional destinations such as the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
