CBSE Three-Language Policy: Relief Possible for Current Class 6 Batch

CBSE Class 6 students affected by the three-language policy and third language exam

CBSE three-language policy is facing scrutiny after the Supreme Court asked the board to consider exempting the current Class 6 batch from the new language requirement. The court’s intervention comes amid concerns that students should not face additional academic pressure because of a policy change. The policy requires students to study three languages, including at least two Indian languages, as part of CBSE’s alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2023. The court has also raised concerns about the availability of qualified language teachers and the practical challenges schools may face while implementing multiple language options. The proposed exemption could give schools, students and parents more time to prepare for a smoother and practical implementation of the CBSE three-language policy.
