Karnataka prehistoric sites added to NCERT Class 9 syllabus

NCERT Karnataka Prehistoric Sites have been added to the Class 9 syllabus, bringing Islampur in Yadgir district and Sanganakallu in Ballari district into classroom lessons on early human history. The two locations feature in the chapter “Early Humans and Beginning of Civilisation.” Students will learn about human evolution, early communities and the use of stone tools through these Karnataka examples. The change gives greater importance to prehistoric archaeology in school education and connects national curriculum content with India’s archaeological heritage. Sanganakallu is particularly significant in Karnataka’s prehistoric research, while Islampur is another important site linked to early human activity. The inclusion could encourage schools and teachers to use local archaeological evidence to make history lessons more engaging. It also gives Karnataka students an opportunity to understand that important evidence about human history exists within their own state.
