IIT Bombay RoboSub 2026 success has put Indian student innovation in the global spotlight after its Autonomous Underwater Vehicle team delivered a strong performance in California. The 29th edition of RoboSub was held from July 11 to 16 at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, with 58 teams from nine countries competing. IIT Bombay secured first place in the Overall Wildcard Challenge and Overall Website Evaluation. The team also finished second in the MathWorks Simulation Challenge, third in Technical Design Report and fifth in the Global Autonomy Challenge. Its flagship Matsya 7 worked alongside the new Mini Matsya, allowing the team to attempt complex underwater tasks. RoboSub challenges students to develop autonomous vehicles for activities such as underwater mapping, object detection, manipulation and pipeline tracking. The achievement highlights the value of hands-on engineering, robotics, teamwork and practical problem-solving for students pursuing future technology careers.
