IIT Mandi Director Recruitment 2026 has opened applications for the institute’s next Director, with eligible senior academicians and administrators invited to apply by October 31, 2026. The appointment comes ahead of current Director Laxmidhar Behera’s tenure ending in December 2026. Candidates should have a PhD with a first-class or equivalent qualification at the preceding degree level, preferably in Engineering. Applicants from Science, Mathematics or Management may also be considered in exceptional cases. They need an outstanding academic record, at least 10 years of teaching experience as a Professor and experience guiding PhD scholars. At least five years of administrative experience and leadership ability are also required. The selected Director will receive a fixed monthly salary of ₹2.25 lakh, plus applicable allowances. The appointment will be for five years or until the candidate turns 70, whichever comes earlier. Applications must reach the Ministry of Education by October 31, 2026.
