AI in Education: Why Teachers Still Matter Most

AI in Education is changing how students learn, teachers prepare lessons and schools use technology. AI tools can provide quick explanations, personalised learning support and help teachers create educational material. However, technology cannot fully replace the role of a teacher. Teachers understand students beyond academic performance. They can recognise confusion, encourage questions, build confidence and provide emotional and social support. These human interactions are difficult to reproduce through an AI system. The growing use of AI also makes teachers more important as guides. Students need help in understanding whether information generated by AI is accurate, how to use these tools responsibly and when they should think independently instead of relying on technology. The future classroom is therefore unlikely to be about AI versus teachers. Instead, AI can become a tool that supports educators while teachers remain at the centre of learning. The strongest education systems may be those that combine technological capabilities with human connection, creativity and mentorship.
