Delhi Student Safety has come under scrutiny following the collapse of a five-storey building used as student accommodation in Satya Niketan on September 6. The building was located near University of Delhi’s South Campus and housed students and other residents. The death toll had risen to six by the morning of September 7, while rescue operations continued, according to the latest reports. The incident has also triggered concerns about the safety of privately operated hostels and paying-guest facilities used by college students. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has ordered immediate sealing of illegal constructions exceeding four floors following the collapse. The development highlights the need for students and parents to check accommodation safety, building approvals, emergency exits and basic facilities before choosing a hostel or PG.
