Teachers’ Day 2026 is being observed across India on September 5, with President Droupadi Murmu stressing the importance of teachers in developing students’ character, talent and independent thinking. In her message on September 4, the President said teachers play an important role in mentoring students and recognising their individual potential. She also encouraged educators to keep updating their knowledge, adopt technology and use innovative teaching methods. Murmu highlighted the need to promote independent thinking and a spirit of inquiry among students. Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of former President and educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
