Bodhan AI Indian Language Models have been launched by an IIT Madras-incubated initiative to support multilingual education and AI applications across India. Bodhan AI, the Centre of Excellence in AI for Education incubated at IIT Madras, has developed four foundational AI models in partnership with AI4Bharat. The models focus on speech recognition, speech generation, machine translation and optical character recognition (OCR). The models are being released as digital public goods, with open-weight versions and hosted APIs on sovereign digital infrastructure. This will allow institutions, researchers and startups to build applications using Indian-language AI technology. The initiative aims to make digital learning more accessible to students and teachers who prefer Indian languages. Bodhan AI is also developing AI tools for students and teachers as part of its broader education technology ecosystem. The launch highlights IIT Madras’ growing role in developing AI solutions designed specifically for India’s multilingual education needs.
