Abhinandan Varthaman Education: From Sainik School to FLY91 Pilot

Abhinandan Varthaman education and training from Sainik School to IAF pilot

Abhinandan Varthaman education and military training shaped his journey from Sainik School to becoming an Indian Air Force fighter pilot and later a commercial pilot. After growing up in a military environment, Varthaman studied at a Sainik School before joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla. He subsequently entered the Indian Air Force and trained as a fighter pilot. His 22-year military career included extensive flying and combat experience. Varthaman became widely known in February 2019 after an aerial engagement with Pakistan following the Balakot air strikes. His conduct during captivity brought him national recognition. He was later awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery. Following his retirement from the IAF, Varthaman has started a new professional chapter by joining Goa-based regional airline FLY91 as a pilot. His transition demonstrates how disciplined military training and aviation experience can support a second career in commercial flying.
