Behind every thriving educational institution there is a leader who understands that education is not merely about academics—it is about shaping lives. Smt. S. N. Sheela Prakash, Principal of NMKRV PU College, represents this spirit of leadership, compassion and commitment. Her journey reflects the belief that a teacher can influence and extend far beyond the classroom, inspiring students to discover their potential, embrace responsibility and contribute meaningfully to society.
For her, education is not simply about preparing students for careers; it is about helping them become confident, responsible and compassionate individuals. Her leadership provides a strong example of how educators can become catalysts for change—touching lives, encouraging young minds and creating opportunities for students to learn through experience.
1. What made you choose this profession?
Education was always deeply valued in my home. My father served as a lecturer at a polytechnic institute, and with much of my family dedicated to teaching, stepping into academia felt like a natural calling. Growing up in an environment that revered knowledge inspired me to carry forward that legacy and make a meaningful difference through teaching.

2. Tell us about your journey as a teacher, lecturer, and principal.
My career began in 1990 as a lecturer, where I gained valuable experience working across two colleges before joining NMKRV in 1993. Over the decades, I served as a Lecturer and later as the Head of the Kannada Department. In 2023, I stepped into the role of Principal, taking on administrative responsibilities aimed at enhancing the overall student experience and institutional excellence. As a Kannada lecturer, I remain as dedicated as ever to bringing out the absolute best in my students.
3. Share your memorable moments in this journey.
Some of my most treasured experiences include teaching blind and underprivileged students—witnessing how education profoundly transforms their life trajectories is something I will always hold close to my heart. Another highlight was hosting an educational radio program; after the programme, hearing from numerous students who reached out to express how much it helped them was deeply gratifying.

4. What are the most satisfying aspects of your profession?
The most fulfilling part of teaching is witnessing the long-term impact of education on a student’s life. Knowing that the knowledge, values, and confidence instilled in the classroom could help and guide students toward a brighter future provides a sense of purpose that few other professions can match.
5. What makes you feel proud of being a teacher?
I take immense pride in knowing that my work directly contributes in shaping individuals and empowering communities. Whether it is preserving language and culture through Kannada literature, guiding an entire institution as a principal, or reaching a single student who needs encouragement, being a catalyst for positive change makes me truly proud to be an educator.
