Kirti Chandra Sahu National Teachers Award 2026 recognises an inspiring journey from a financially struggling childhood in Odisha to becoming a professor at IIT Hyderabad. Sahu is among 21 faculty members from higher education institutions and polytechnics selected for the National Awards to Teachers 2026. Sahu studied mechanical engineering and later pursued higher studies and research. He completed his PhD at JNCASR and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London before joining IIT Hyderabad in 2009 as its first Chemical Engineering faculty member. His research focuses on raindrops and how their size and shape change as they fall. His team developed a facility to study falling raindrops under controlled conditions. The research could improve rainfall measurement, weather models and early-warning systems.
