Karnataka Spoken English Classes: 1,919 Schools to Benefit

Students attending spoken English classes in Karnataka government schools

Karnataka Spoken English Classes will be introduced in 1,919 government schools to help students develop stronger English communication skills. The state government has allocated ₹19.67 crore for the programme, according to School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa. The initiative will cover selected Karnataka Public Schools, PM SHRI KPS institutions, affiliated unit schools and some bilingual-medium government schools. Guest teachers will conduct the spoken English sessions. The programme is designed to give students more opportunities to practise communication rather than relying only on textbook learning. For students, stronger spoken English can support classroom participation, higher education and future employment opportunities. The move is also important for government schools because communication skills can influence students’ access to academic and career opportunities. Parents can watch for school-level schedules and instructions as the programme is rolled out.
