GATE 2027 registration has opened through the IIT Madras portal, with a new Robotics and Automation paper and revised examination details for engineering and other eligible graduates. The regular application deadline is September 27, 2026, while candidates who miss it can apply with a late fee until October 5. GATE 2027 will be conducted across six dates in February 2027: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. IIT Madras has introduced Robotics and Automation as a new test paper, taking the total number of papers to 30. The institute has also revised several syllabi and paper combinations. Indian nationals must use verified DigiLocker credentials for registration. Candidates can appear for one or up to two permitted papers. The examination remains an important route to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at participating institutions.
