The CBSE Three-Language Policy for Class 9 students is under review as the Centre has sought more time from the Supreme Court to finalise its implementation. The court has deferred the matter by one week. The Supreme Court has said that introducing three languages is not wrong, but the policy should not put unnecessary pressure on students. Under the new rules, Class 9 students must study three languages, with at least two being Indian languages. A foreign language can be selected as the third or an additional fourth language. CBSE has also clarified that there will be no Class 10 board examination for the third language (R3). Until dedicated R3 textbooks are available, students will use Class 6 R3 textbooks. The policy follows the National Education Policy 2020 and focuses on practical implementation, including teachers, textbooks and student workload.
