NIMHANS Creche Bengaluru has been reimagined as ‘Aata Paata’, a redesigned childcare facility for the children of staff members at the institute. The new space focuses on creating a supportive environment where children can play, explore, learn and interact while their parents are at work. The facility includes child-friendly interiors, play areas, sensory experiences and spaces that encourage movement and interaction with nature. The initiative reflects a broader understanding of early childhood care, where children’s emotional, social and developmental needs are considered alongside basic care and supervision. The redesigned crèche was developed with inputs from child mental health professionals and design experts. NIMHANS aims to provide a reliable workplace childcare option for its employees while creating an environment centred on children’s wellbeing. The initiative could also offer a model for other public institutions looking to strengthen workplace childcare facilities.
