JEE Advanced 3 Attempts is being demanded by more than 12,000 IIT aspirants who have petitioned the Ministry of Education, IIT Council and Joint Admission Board (JAB). Students want either a third attempt or permission to use the existing two attempts across three consecutive years. Currently, candidates can appear for JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years, beginning with the year they pass Class 12. The aspirants have highlighted the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced eligibility rules. JEE Main allows candidates to appear up to six times across three consecutive years. They argue that an additional JEE Advanced attempt would give students more opportunity to demonstrate their ability, particularly those facing health issues, exam pressure or unequal access to preparation resources. Students have also cited the additional attempt permitted during the COVID-19 period as a precedent for flexibility in the examination system.
