IIT Madras UNESCO AI partnership aims to develop AI-powered and immersive learning technologies that integrate social and emotional learning into existing curricula. The collaboration between IIT Madras and UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development will combine AI, Extended Reality, game design and immersive technologies with UNESCO’s expertise in Social and Emotional Learning. The planned tools are expected to analyse existing curricula and generate personalised, gamified learning experiences incorporating SEL concepts. The partners also intend to explore low-cost and low-bandwidth solutions that could make digital learning more accessible across different education systems. The initiative reflects a growing shift from using AI simply as a productivity tool towards developing technology that changes how students learn and interact with academic content. For educators and students, the project could offer a model for combining technology, personalised learning and essential life skills within mainstream education.
