NIT MTech PhD Programmes to Get Major Research-Focused Revamp

NIT MTech PhD programmes to focus on research and industry collaboration

NITs MTech PhD programmes are set to undergo a major transformation as the NITER Council pushes for stronger research and industry-focused education. The proposed changes aim to make postgraduate programmes more relevant to emerging technological and industrial requirements. The council has set targets requiring 5% of PhD admissions to be industry-funded and 10% to be industry-led, encouraging deeper collaboration between National Institutes of Technology and companies. The proposed revamp includes integrating live projects, hackathons, experiential learning and industry internships into postgraduate education. Institutions will also be encouraged to strengthen research partnerships and create pathways connecting academic research with real-world applications. The initiative comes amid concerns over declining industry-sponsored research and the need to improve doctoral research outcomes. NITs are expected to develop stronger industry networks, expand research opportunities and align MTech and PhD programmes with emerging technological challenges.
