IISc Agnit Semiconductors: Bengaluru Startup’s GaN Ambition

IISc Agnit Semiconductors researchers developing Gallium Nitride semiconductor technology

IISc Agnit Semiconductors is emerging as a key Indian deep-tech startup focused on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology and aims to build globally competitive semiconductor products from Bengaluru. Incubated at the Indian Institute of Science, Agnit brings together scientists and researchers with extensive experience in GaN and semiconductor technology. The startup is working on GaN-based semiconductor devices that can offer advantages in areas such as efficiency, power handling and high-frequency applications. The technology has potential uses in fast chargers, electric vehicles, telecommunications, defence systems and other advanced electronics. Agnit’s story also highlights the growing connection between Indian research institutions and deep-tech startups. The team has more than 120 research papers collectively, while the company says its technology is built on years of research originating at IISc. For students, the development demonstrates how advanced research in engineering, physics, electronics and materials science can move from university laboratories into real-world products. It also highlights potential career opportunities in India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem.
