Neeraj Chopra Diamond League Final qualification has secured the Indian javelin star a place among the six finalists for the season-ending event in Brussels. Chopra qualified despite competing in only two Diamond League meetings this season and finished sixth with 12 points. He skipped the Zurich meeting but had earned crucial points after finishing fourth in Doha and second in Lausanne, where he produced a season-best 88.05m throw. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the Zurich Diamond League with a massive 92.07m effort and topped the qualification standings with 39 points. Anderson Peters, Keshorn Walcott, Curtis Thompson and Julius Yego also qualified for the final. The Diamond League Final will be held in Brussels on September 4 and 5. For Chopra, the event provides another opportunity to compete against the world’s leading javelin throwers before the Asian Games next month.
