ISRO EOS 5 satellite launch is scheduled for September 4 aboard the GSLV F17 rocket from Sriharikota. EOS 5, earlier known as GISAT 1A, is designed to provide India with a continuous view of the country from nearly 36,000 kilometres above Earth. The Earth-observation satellite is expected to support monitoring of India’s landmass, coastlines, weather systems and disaster-prone areas. The mission is particularly significant for ISRO after two consecutive PSLV mission failures. The space agency is now preparing for a busy launch schedule, with seven launches planned from now and March 2027, including the Gaganyaan programme’s first uncrewed G1 mission. ISRO also plans to realise 12 satellites and target eight launch-vehicle missions during the current financial year.
