AI in Indian schools remains at an early stage, with only 13% reporting advanced, system-wide integration, according to a QS I-GAUGE survey. The report found that 25% of schools had started structured AI implementation, while another 25% were still exploring possible uses. The findings were based on responses from teachers and senior academic leaders across 21 states and Union territories. Schools identified teacher training, clear policies and institutional preparedness as important requirements for effective AI adoption. Teachers particularly need support in areas such as AI-assisted lesson planning, subject-specific applications, assessment and feedback. Parents also have concerns about student data privacy, dependence on automated tools and increased screen time. The findings suggest that simply introducing AI platforms will not guarantee better learning. Schools need trained teachers, responsible-use policies, appropriate infrastructure and safeguards. For students, AI should strengthen learning and critical thinking rather than replace independent work.
