3-Year LLM Course Allows Lawyers to Continue Practice: Delhi HC

3-Year LLM Course allows lawyers to continue legal practice while pursuing masters

3-Year LLM Course allows practising lawyers to continue their legal practice while pursuing higher education, according to an observation by the Delhi High Court. Justice Jasmeet Singh made the observation while permitting a lawyer enrolled in Delhi University’s three-year LL.M. programme to appear for his second-semester examination. The lawyer had been detained from the examination because his attendance was 43.5%, against the prescribed 67.5% requirement. He submitted that attending court proceedings made it difficult to attend classes scheduled at noon, which coincided with court working hours. The court noted that students pursuing the three-year LL.M. course are not required to suspend their Bar licence. However, the court clarified that its order was passed considering the peculiar facts of the case. The student agreed to execute a bond and undertaking to make up the attendance shortfall in subsequent semesters.
