Karnataka KEO AI Computers: 1,000 PCs for Government Schools

Karnataka KEO AI computers launched for government schools

Karnataka KEO AI computers are set to bring AI-enabled computing to government schools across the state, with an initial deployment of 1,000 devices. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar launched KEO, a compact AI-ready computing platform developed through a collaboration involving the Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology, KEONICS and technology partners. KEO stands for Knowledge-driven, Economical and Open-source and combines an open-source RISC-V processor architecture with open-source hardware, software and on-device AI. The platform is designed to reduce dependence on cloud connectivity, making it particularly relevant for rural and underserved areas. The initiative aims to help students learn coding, artificial intelligence, machine learning and electronics. Teachers can also use AI-based interactive learning tools. The Karnataka government plans to eventually extend KEO to every government school, with industry and CSR organisations being encouraged to support the expansion.
