IIT Kharagpur AI Learning Centre has been launched at the Tagore Centre in Houston to expand AI education, professional training and technology collaboration between India and the United States. The centre has been established in collaboration with the IIT Kharagpur Outreach Network. The initiative aims to provide opportunities for skill development in emerging AI technologies while connecting academia, industry professionals, researchers and IIT alumni. It was inaugurated during events marking India’s 80th Independence Day and IIT Kharagpur’s 75th anniversary. The centre began operations with a two-day AI certificate bootcamp coordinated by Dr Debyajoti Banerjee of Texas A&M University. The programme brought together technology professionals, alumni and other participants interested in artificial intelligence. IIT Kharagpur Director Professor Suman Chakraborty said the centre could eventually develop into a broader Pan-IIT platform connecting alumni and global stakeholders. The initiative is also expected to support professional development and help industries address technology challenges. The Houston centre marks another step in IIT Kharagpur’s global outreach and highlights the growing importance of AI skills in education and professional development.
