IIT Kharagpur 75-year plan sets out a future-focused roadmap built around Education 5.0, artificial intelligence, deep tech, innovation, new PhD pathways and a major campus modernisation programme. The institute, celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, plans a ₹1,000-crore infrastructure overhaul covering academic, residential, research, wellness, and student spaces. Its five-pillar roadmap includes people-first development, Education 5.0, innovation and enterprise, frontier research in healthcare and affordable deep tech, and infrastructure designed as a living laboratory. For students and researchers, the plan includes double majors, new admission pathways, early exposure to frontier laboratories and expanded research opportunities. IIT Kharagpur also plans an Innovation-Centric PhD programme and a pathway connecting innovation fellows to doctoral research. New centres will focus on areas including AI in education, AI-enabled mining, future-ready AI infrastructure and genomic analytics. The institute also plans international academic collaborations and outreach programmes with colleges.
