Atharv Sood asteroid detections highlight how curiosity and hands-on learning can inspire young students to explore space science. The Class 6 student from Satya School participated in Phase I of the All-India Asteroid Search Campaign 2026 and was credited with three preliminary asteroid detections. He was also recognised by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration as part of Team SPACE Scanners 1. Through Satya School’s Young Scientist Programme, Atharv received training from SPACE India in collaboration with IASC and learnt to use Astrometrica to analyse astronomical images. Students compared the images captured at different times to identify objects that appeared to move against the background of fixed stars. His interest in astronomy grew after receiving a telescope from his parents. Atharv hopes to explore space science further and is interested in working with telescopes or organisations such as ISRO or NASA someday.
