Indian AI Cancer Tool MutAIverse May Trace What Triggered Cancer

Indian AI cancer tool MutAIverse studying DNA damage and chemical exposures

Indian AI cancer tool MutAIverse has been developed by researchers to investigate what chemical exposures may have contributed to DNA damage linked to cancer. The platform was developed by researchers led by the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology-Delhi, along with collaborators from NIPER Guwahati, CSIR-IGIB and Dr Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute. MutAIverse studies tiny chemical changes in DNA called DNA adducts. These changes can occur when certain chemicals interact with DNA. Using generative AI, chemical modelling and mass-spectrometry data, the platform can work backwards from these molecular changes to identify chemicals that may have caused them. Researchers tested the technology using tumour samples from people with head and neck cancer and a history of smokeless tobacco use. However, the tool cannot currently prove that a particular chemical caused an individual’s cancer. More research and validation are needed before clinical use.
